My friends are all obsessed with skiing and snowboarding, so we’ve booked a week-long trip to a resort in the Alps. The problem is that I’ve never skied in my life and honestly, I have no desire to start now. I'm worried I'll just be sitting alone in the hotel room while everyone else is out on the slopes. Does anyone have recommendations for non-skiing activities or ways to enjoy the mountain atmosphere without needing gear? I’d love to find some spots for hiking, relaxing, or just good local food.

Honestly, don't worry about it! Most ski resorts have plenty of non-skiing stuff to do. Look into snowshoeing if you want to get some exercise in the fresh air.

Definitely try the spa/wellness centers. Most Alpine resorts have amazing saunas and outdoor heated pools with mountain views. It’s the best part of the trip for me.

I second the spa suggestion! Sitting in a hot tub while it's snowing outside is pure bliss.

Check if your resort has a toboggan run. It’s way easier than skiing and honestly hilarious if you're with friends.

Are you going to a big resort? If so, they usually have pedestrian passes for the gondolas so you can meet your friends at the mountain restaurants for lunch.

Exactly what @user5 said! You can just take the lift up, enjoy the view, and grab a hot chocolate or a beer while you wait for them to finish their runs.

Don't forget about the local villages! Walking around the town, window shopping, and finding a cozy cafe to read a book in is a perfectly valid way to spend a holiday.

I'm not a skier either, but I love photography. The landscape is gorgeous, so I usually just hike the marked winter trails and take pictures.

Hiking in winter can be tricky without the right boots. Make sure you rent some decent snow boots, otherwise, you'll be freezing within an hour.

See if there's an ice skating rink. It’s a classic winter activity that doesn't require any technical skill.

Look into paragliding if you're feeling adventurous! It's a great way to see the mountains without having to ski down them.

Most resorts have a 'non-skier' itinerary. Ask at the tourist information office when you arrive, they are super helpful.

Honestly, just enjoy the food. Fondue and raclette are mandatory when in the Alps. You don't need to ski to eat cheese!

Best advice here. Just lean into the 'après-ski' culture. You get all the fun of the atmosphere without the sore legs.

Check if your hotel offers any workshops, like cooking classes or local craft sessions. Some of the bigger ones do.

I usually bring a good book and find a sun lounger on a terrace. There's nothing like mountain sun.

Make sure you pack some layers. Even if you aren't active, the temperature drops fast once the sun goes behind the peaks.

Don't let your friends pressure you into 'just trying it' if you don't want to. It's your vacation too, do what makes you happy.

Have a great trip! The Alps are magical even if you never touch a pair of skis.
