My friends and I are planning a ski trip for next February, but we are trying to avoid the massive costs of places like Courchevel or Zermatt. We are all intermediate skiers and mostly care about good snow and decent après-ski vibes rather than luxury hotels. Does anyone have recommendations for resorts in Bulgaria, Poland, or perhaps the smaller regions in France or Italy that won't break the bank? We are hoping to keep the lift passes and accommodation under a reasonable budget if possible. Any tips on when to book to get the best deals would also be greatly appreciated.

Bansko in Bulgaria is definitely your best bet if you want to save money. The après-ski scene is legendary and way cheaper than anything you'll find in the Alps.

I second Bansko, but try to avoid the peak holiday weeks in February if you can, otherwise the lift queues get crazy.

Have you considered Jasna in Slovakia? It's really underrated, the slopes are great for intermediates, and the beer is incredibly cheap.

Is Jasna easy to get to from the UK? I'm worried about transfer times.

Zakopane in Poland is beautiful, but honestly, the snow reliability can be a bit hit or miss compared to the higher altitude resorts in France.

If you want France without the Courchevel price tag, check out Les Orres or Risoul. They are perfect for intermediates and way more affordable.

Totally agree about Les Orres! It's a hidden gem and the lift passes are significantly cheaper than the big name resorts.

For Italy, look at Livigno. It's duty-free, which makes the food and drinks super affordable, and the snow record is fantastic.

Livigno is great, but make sure you book your accommodation early because it fills up fast with families.

Honestly, the key to saving money is booking your flights and accommodation separately rather than going through a travel agent.

I always book in October for a February trip. Anything later than that and the prices for apartments skyrocket.

Don't forget to check out the smaller resorts in the Aosta Valley in Italy. You can often find decent deals if you stay in the valley towns rather than slope-side.
