My partner and I are finally planning a week-long beach vacation with our 9-month-old baby, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the logistics. We are worried about how to manage nap schedules in the heat and what kind of sun protection gear is actually worth buying. Does anyone have recommendations for portable baby tents or specific sunscreen brands that are gentle enough for sensitive skin? We'd also love to hear any tips on how to keep the sand out of everything or if we should just accept that it's going to be a messy week. Any advice from parents who have survived a coastal trip with an infant would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, just lower your expectations. You will be covered in sand, the baby will be covered in sand, and your hotel room will be covered in sand. It’s part of the charm!

For sunscreen, check out Blue Lizard or ThinkBaby. They are mineral-based and work wonders on sensitive skin without being too greasy.

Get a pop-up UV tent! It’s a lifesaver for naps. Just make sure it has good airflow so the baby doesn't overheat.

I second the pop-up tent suggestion. We used the Neso tent and it gave us a nice shady spot to hang out while the little one napped in the breeze.

Pro tip: bring a fitted sheet and four heavy water bottles. Put the baby in the center of the sheet and place the bottles in the corners to create a sand-free playpen.

Don't stress the schedule too much. We found that trying to force a strict nap time on the beach just led to a cranky baby. Go with the flow.

Baby powder is your best friend for removing sand. Sprinkle it on the skin and the sand just wipes right off. Seriously, it's magic.

Is it really worth it at 9 months? I feel like they won't even remember it and it's just so much gear to haul around.

To the person asking if it's worth it: yes, absolutely! Even if they don't remember, the photos are adorable and it's a great family experience.

Make sure you bring a small inflatable pool. You can fill it with a little water so the baby can splash safely without being in the ocean waves.

Has anyone tried those baby rash guards with the long sleeves? Are they actually comfortable for them in the heat?

Yes, get the long-sleeve rash guards! They save you so much stress with sunscreen application, and they keep the skin protected from the sun and sand irritation.

Don't forget a white noise machine. The ocean sounds are nice, but if the baby is used to a specific sound to fall asleep, it’s a game changer.

We found that morning beach trips were best. By 1 PM, the sun is too intense and the sand gets way too hot for little hands and feet.

Bring way more diapers than you think you need. Buying them at a beach resort shop will cost you a fortune.

For the sand issue, keep a mesh bag for all the beach toys. You can just shake it out before putting it in the car.

I’m currently at the beach with my 10-month-old. The best advice I can give is to pick a spot right by the entrance so you don't have to carry everything too far.

My biggest regret was not bringing a portable fan that clips onto the stroller or tent. It gets so stuffy in those little tents!

Just embrace the mess. If you try to keep everything perfectly clean, you’ll spend the whole vacation stressed out instead of enjoying the waves.
