My husband and I are starting to plan our summer vacation for our family of four, including our two kids who are 6 and 9. We are looking for an all-inclusive resort that actually has good food options and decent kids' clubs, as we'd love a little downtime while they are entertained. We were looking at Mexico or the Caribbean, but the sheer number of choices is honestly overwhelming. Does anyone have a place they've visited recently that they would actually recommend? We want to avoid places that feel like a constant party zone.

We went to Beaches Turks & Caicos last summer and it was incredible. The food quality is way better than your average all-inclusive, and the kids' club staff were amazing with our 7 and 10-year-olds.

Agree with the Beaches recommendation, but be prepared for the price tag. It is definitely not a party resort though.

Check out Grand Palladium in Riviera Maya. It's huge but very family-oriented and has tons of pools.

I second the Grand Palladium. We stayed there last year and the kids loved the water park area.

Honestly, avoid the big chains if you want quality food. Look into Hotel Xcaret Mexico; it is pricey but the food is actual fine dining level.

Xcaret is great, but is it really for a 6 and 9 year old? I feel like it's more for adults.

Try Finest Playa Mujeres. It hits that sweet spot of luxury for parents and genuine fun for kids without being a spring break vibe.

Finest is my top pick too. The 'Imagine' kids club is legitimately one of the best I've seen in Mexico.

We just got back from Club Med Punta Cana. It's very focused on activities and sports, which kept our kids busy all day.

Does Club Med have good food though? I've heard mixed reviews.

I'd suggest looking at Ikos Resorts if you ever consider Europe, but for Mexico, stick to the Playa Mujeres area.

Hard Rock resorts are usually too loud. Definitely steer clear of those if you want a relaxing vacation.

Look into Dreams resorts. They are very consistent and definitely not 'party' hotels.

Dreams is solid, but I find the food to be just 'okay'. It's good for kids but not for foodies.

We love Azul Beach Resort. It's smaller, so you don't have to walk miles to get to the beach, which is a huge plus with younger kids.

Great suggestion, the smaller scale of Azul is perfect for that age range.

Whatever you do, read the recent reviews on TripAdvisor. Things change so fast with management at these resorts.

I've been to many, and honestly, the food is usually the weakest link. Manage your expectations there and you'll have a better time.

If you want downtime, check if the resort offers evening babysitting services. That was a game changer for us.
