Hey everyone, I'm planning a few trips over the next year and always struggle to find genuinely affordable flights. It seems like prices are constantly fluctuating, and every time I think I've found a good deal, it changes or I find a 'better' one later that's still not great. I've tried using incognito mode, clearing cookies, and checking various comparison sites, but I'm wondering if there are any specific tricks or lesser-known strategies you all use? Are there particular days to book or fly, or specific alert services that are truly effective? Any seasoned travelers out there willing to share their secrets for snagging those elusive cheap airfares?

The absolute best strategy is flexibility. If you can be flexible with your dates (even a day or two) and sometimes even your destination, you'll find much better deals. Mid-week flights are usually cheapest.

I've found Google Flights' price tracking feature to be incredibly useful. Set an alert for your desired route and dates, and it'll email you when prices drop or rise. It's not a 'secret' but it's consistently effective.

Forget incognito mode, it's mostly a myth. Airlines don't track your specific searches like that. Focus on the actual market factors like demand and supply.

Definitely agree with the Google Flights suggestion. I also use Skyscanner's 'Everywhere' search if I'm open to destinations, it's great for inspiration and finding unexpected cheap flights.

Booking far in advance isn't always best. For international, 2-4 months out seems to be the sweet spot. For domestic, maybe 1-2 months. Too early or too late can be expensive.

Try flying into smaller, secondary airports near your destination. Often, the flight is much cheaper, and you can take a train or bus the rest of the way for less than the price difference.

I've heard Tuesdays are the best day to book, but honestly, I haven't seen a massive difference. Sundays seem to be the worst, though.

The 'best day to book' thing is largely anecdotal. What really matters is when you *fly*. Avoid holidays, school breaks, and generally stick to off-peak seasons.

Sometimes booking two separate one-way tickets on different airlines can be cheaper than a round trip. Especially if you're mixing budget and full-service carriers.

For me, the biggest trick is setting price alerts on multiple platforms (Google Flights, Skyscanner, Kayak) and checking them daily. Persistence is key!

Don't forget about 'error fares' or 'mistake fares.' They're rare, but if you follow deal sites like Secret Flying or The Flight Deal, you might snag one. You have to be ready to book IMMEDIATELY though.

I find that clearing cookies and incognito mode are mostly placebo. The real game changer is being super flexible with your departure and arrival airports, not just dates.

Consider flying with a long layover. Sometimes a 10-12 hour layover somewhere unexpected can cut hundreds off the price, and you get a bonus mini-city tour!

Totally relate to the fluctuating prices, it's infuriating! My advice: once you find a price you're truly comfortable with, just book it. Don't chase the 'perfect' deal forever, you'll drive yourself mad.

My secret? Loyalty programs. Collect miles and points with one or two airlines. Even if you're not flying business class, you can often get economy flights for just the taxes, which is truly cheap.
