We are planning our first big family trip with our two-year-old next month and I am already feeling overwhelmed by the packing process. Does anyone have a reliable checklist or a strategy to avoid overpacking while still being prepared for every emergency? I am particularly worried about what to bring in the carry-on versus what should be checked. Any advice on must-have gear that actually makes the flight easier would be greatly appreciated.

The key is the 'one outfit per day plus two extras' rule. You can always find a laundromat if things get desperate.

Bring a tablet loaded with offline shows, but don't give it to them until you're actually in the air. That's your secret weapon.

Honestly, don't overthink it. Most places you're going will have diapers and wipes. Don't waste precious luggage space on those.

Has anyone tried those inflatable footrests for the plane? Are they worth the hassle?

I used one last year! It was a total game-changer for my toddler's nap, but check with your airline first, some ban them.

Always pack a change of clothes for yourself in the carry-on too. Trust me, toddler spills are inevitable and you don't want to smell like juice for six hours.

Invest in a good travel stroller that folds small enough for the overhead bin. It saves so much waiting time at the gate.

Great advice! Do you have a specific brand you'd recommend?

I’m a big fan of the Babyzen Yoyo, it’s expensive but worth every penny for how compact it gets.

Don't forget a small first aid kit with children's Tylenol and fever reducers. Trying to find a pharmacy in a foreign city at 2 AM is a nightmare.

This is so true! I learned that the hard way in Italy.

I use packing cubes for everything. One cube for pajamas, one for daily outfits, and one for snacks. Makes finding things in the dark so much easier.

Snacks are the real MVP. Bring way more than you think you need-pouches, crackers, whatever they love.

I always bring a few new, cheap 'surprise' toys from the dollar store to pull out when they get cranky. The novelty keeps them occupied for 20 minutes at least.

Just remember that kids are resilient. Even if you forget something, it's not the end of the world.

Does anyone have tips for managing the toddler's sleep schedule across time zones?

My best advice is to stick to your home routine as much as possible for the first 24 hours, it really helps them adjust.
