I have an international flight coming up next week and I'm stressing out about what I can actually fit in my carry-on bag. I know the 100ml liquid rule is standard, but does that apply to things like solid deodorants or makeup palettes too? Also, I've heard conflicting things about whether power banks need to be removed from the bag during security screening. I really don't want to get pulled aside and have to toss my expensive skincare or get held up at the checkpoint. Does anyone have a clear checklist or a reliable site they use to double-check these items?

Solid deodorant and powder-based makeup palettes don't count as liquids, so you're totally safe leaving those in your bag. Just make sure the deodorant isn't a gel or spray.

Exactly what the first person said. Only things that can be spilled, sprayed, or smeared count as liquids. Lipsticks and balms are also usually fine.

Regarding power banks, you absolutely must carry them in your carry-on, never in checked luggage. Most airports require you to take them out and put them in a separate bin during security, though some modern scanners don't require it anymore. Better to just take it out to be safe.

I second that. I always put my power bank in an easy-to-reach pocket of my backpack so I don't have to dig for it when the officer asks.

Check the TSA website or the official site of the airport you are flying out of. They are the only ones that matter, really.

The 100ml rule is for liquids, gels, and aerosols. If it's a solid, you're fine. Don't stress, it's pretty straightforward once you've done it a few times.

Does anyone know if hair wax counts as a gel? I've had it taken away before but it was a small container.

Yes, hair wax is definitely considered a gel or paste, so it must go in your clear quart-sized bag. If it's over 100ml, they will toss it.

I've started using solid shampoo bars and toothpaste tabs specifically to avoid the whole liquid bag headache. It makes security so much faster.

That's a great tip! I might try that for my next trip, thanks for the suggestion.

Just remember that even if your bottle is 100ml, if it's half full, some strict security agents might still give you a hard time. Try to keep everything in original packaging if possible.

That's actually a myth. They look at the container size, not how much is inside. If the bottle says 100ml, you're good even if it's full.

Don't overthink it. As long as everything is in a clear bag and easily accessible, you'll be fine. They see thousands of people a day, you won't be the first one with a power bank.
