My friends and I are trying to decide where to head for a week of skiing this winter and we are torn between Poland and Slovakia. We have heard great things about the atmosphere in Zakopane, but we are also considering Jasná because of the better infrastructure and longer runs. Has anyone been to both recently and could compare the crowds and lift queues? We are intermediate skiers, so we do not need anything too extreme, just a nice mix of blue and red slopes. Any advice on which resort offers better value for money regarding lift passes and accommodation?

If you prioritize actual skiing over nightlife, go to Jasná every time. The infrastructure is lightyears ahead of Zakopane.

I second this. Zakopane is beautiful for the vibe, but waiting 30 minutes for a lift in Kasprowy Wierch will kill your mood.

Jasná is definitely better for intermediate riders. The red runs are wide and well-groomed, perfect for cruising.

Is Jasná expensive though? I heard the prices have skyrocketed recently.

Honestly, both have gotten pricey, but Jasná is worth the premium for the lift capacity alone.

I went to Zakopane last February and it was a bit of a nightmare with the crowds. If you go, make sure to avoid the school holiday weeks.

Don't forget the nightlife factor. If you want a party after skiing, Zakopane wins hands down. Jasná is pretty quiet in the evenings.

Exactly, it depends on what you want. Party = Zakopane, Skiing = Jasná. Pretty simple choice.

I've been to both. Jasná's Chopok mountain is just a much better ski experience overall. The slopes are longer and more varied.

Agreed. I found the accommodation in Liptovský Mikuláš near Jasná to be great value if you don't mind a short drive to the slopes.

Just keep in mind that the wind in Jasná can be brutal. They close the top lifts pretty often if it gets too gusty.

That is a fair point, but even with the wind, I still think Jasná beats the chaotic queues in Zakopane.
