I'm planning a three-week trip to Europe next month and I'm realizing I have no idea which travel insurance company is actually reliable. I've looked at a few comparison sites, but the reviews are all over the place and I'm worried about getting stuck with a company that makes claims impossible. Has anyone here had a good or bad experience with major providers like World Nomads or Allianz? I'm mostly concerned about medical coverage and trip cancellation in case something goes wrong. Any advice on what to look for in the fine print would be greatly appreciated.

I've used Allianz for years and honestly, they've never let me down. Had to file a claim for a delayed flight once and it was handled pretty quickly.

World Nomads is great if you're doing adventure sports, but for a standard Europe trip, they might be overkill and a bit pricey. Check out SafetyWing instead.

Make sure you check your credit card benefits first! Many premium travel cards include trip cancellation and medical insurance automatically.

Whatever you do, stay away from the cheapest options on those comparison sites. You get what you pay for when it comes to customer support.

I second the credit card suggestion. I saved hundreds on my trip to Italy by just using the coverage that came with my Chase Sapphire card.

Does anyone have experience with GeoBlue? My company recommended them, but I'm not sure if they're good for leisure travel.

I had a medical emergency in France last year and Allianz covered everything without any fuss. Highly recommend them for peace of mind.

The fine print is everything. Look specifically for 'pre-existing condition waivers' if that applies to you, otherwise they'll deny the claim in a heartbeat.

World Nomads is solid, but their UI is a pain to navigate if you actually have to submit documents. Just a heads up.

Always read the 'Exclusions' section. Most people skip it and then get mad when they aren't covered for something obvious.

Check if your health insurance covers anything internationally. Mine covers emergency care, so I usually just buy a cheap trip cancellation policy on its own.

Honestly, I've stopped buying travel insurance for Europe. The medical care there is so affordable compared to the US that I just pay out of pocket if I need a clinic visit.
