Hey everyone, I'm really itching to travel internationally this year but my budget is pretty tight. I'm looking for recommendations for countries or cities where the cost of living and travel expenses won't completely drain my savings. Ideally, I'd love to find somewhere I can experience a different culture without spending a fortune on accommodation and food. I'm open to pretty much any region as long as it's known for being relatively inexpensive for tourists. Any personal experiences or tips on how to find cheap flights and deals would be incredibly helpful too!

Hey! Definitely look into Southeast Asia. Thailand and Vietnam are fantastic and incredibly budget-friendly. You can find hostels for just a few dollars a night and street food is delicious and super cheap. I spent a month in Vietnam on very little!

I second Southeast Asia! Also, consider Eastern Europe. Places like Poland, Hungary (Budapest is amazing), and Bulgaria are much more affordable than Western Europe but still offer incredible history and culture. Flights might be a bit more, but once you're there, daily costs are low.

For cheap flights, always use incognito mode when searching and clear your cookies. Also, try searching for flights to a major hub city and then a separate, cheaper flight to your final destination using budget airlines. Skyscanner's 'Everywhere' feature is a lifesaver for finding cheap routes!

Regarding Eastern Europe, I totally agree! Krakow in Poland is beautiful and very affordable. You can get a huge meal for less than 10 Euros easily. Public transport is also excellent and cheap.

My personal experience with a tight budget was Colombia. Bogota and Medellin are vibrant, and once you're outside the main tourist traps, things get really cheap. Hostels are great for meeting people and cutting costs, and local food is incredibly good and inexpensive. Plus, the exchange rate for USD or EUR is usually favorable. Just be smart about your safety, like anywhere else.

Don't overlook Mexico! Especially outside of Cancun/Riviera Maya. Oaxaca or Mexico City can be surprisingly affordable, rich in culture, and the food is out of this world. You can find great deals on Airbnbs or local guesthouses.

That's a great point about incognito mode for flights! I've saved so much doing that. Also, flying mid-week instead of weekends often drops prices significantly.

If you're really adventurous, India is probably one of the cheapest places on earth to travel. You'll experience a huge culture shock but it's an unforgettable journey for very little money once you get there.

To add to the flight tips: consider flying during the 'shoulder seasons' (spring/fall) instead of peak summer or holidays. The weather is often still good, and prices for flights and accommodation drop a lot.

I'd recommend looking at Albania! It's still a bit of a hidden gem in Europe. Beautiful coastlines, mountains, and ancient ruins, and everything is super affordable compared to its neighbors like Greece or Italy. Accommodation and food are incredibly cheap.

Yes, Albania is fantastic! I was there last year and was amazed by how far my money went. The local buses are a unique experience and incredibly cheap for getting around.

Wherever you decide, remember that often the best experiences come from living like a local - eating street food, using public transport, and staying in smaller guesthouses. Enjoy your trip planning!
