I'm looking to plan an active weekend getaway in Ukraine and really want to try whitewater rafting. I've heard the Cheremosh River is the go-to spot, but I'm wondering if there are other good locations for beginners or intermediate rafters. Also, what should I expect in terms of pricing for a guided day trip including equipment rental? Any recommendations for reliable tour operators or campsites would be greatly appreciated.

Cheremosh is definitely the classic choice, especially the Black Cheremosh section. It's exhilarating but very manageable for intermediate rafters.

If you are a total beginner, look into the South Bug River near Migeia. It's much calmer and the water is generally warmer than in the Carpathians.

I second the Migeia recommendation. It’s perfect for a weekend trip if you’re coming from Kyiv or Odesa.

What are the costs looking like these days? I haven't been in a few years.

Usually, a full-day guided trip including gear rental and lunch will set you back about 1200 to 1800 UAH per person. Prices vary depending on the tour operator.

Check out 'Big Travel' or 'Active Ukraine'-they have been around for a long time and have good safety records.

Make sure to bring water shoes! Most rental places provide helmets and life vests, but decent footwear is on you.

I went to the Carpathians last summer and stayed at a local campsite near Dzembronya. It was super cheap, maybe 300 UAH a night for a tent spot.

Are these spots crowded on weekends? I'm hoping to avoid massive groups if possible.

Yes, they can get pretty packed on Saturdays. Try to go during a weekday if your schedule allows it.

Don't forget to pack a waterproof phone case. You'll definitely want to take photos but the risk of dropping it is high.

Is the water level high enough right now? I heard it depends heavily on the rain.

It definitely depends. Early spring is best for high water, but summer is safer for beginners.

I personally prefer the Dniester Canyon for a more relaxed rafting experience, though it's more of a scenic float than whitewater.

That sounds lovely, but the OP specifically asked for whitewater. Stick to Cheremosh if you want the adrenaline!

I've used 'Rafting in Ukraine' services before. Very professional and the instructors speak decent English.

Budget at least 3000 UAH for the whole weekend if you count transport and food. It’s affordable but not free.

Does anyone know if they provide wetsuits? I get cold easily even in summer.

Most operators include wetsuits in the rental package, just ask them beforehand when booking.
