I'm about to fly across eight time zones for a business trip next week and I'm really worried about my productivity. Every time I travel this far, I end up feeling like a zombie for the first three days, which is honestly the worst. Does anyone have a routine that actually works, like using melatonin or specific light exposure tricks? I've heard mixed things about fasting during the flight too, so I'm curious if that's worth trying or just a myth. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The golden rule is to immediately set your watch to the destination time the moment you board the plane.

I second that, but honestly, stay hydrated. Most people forget how much flying dehydrates you and that makes the jet lag feel ten times worse.

Try to force yourself to stay awake until at least 8 PM local time at your destination. It's brutal, but it works.

I disagree with forcing it. If you're exhausted, a 20-minute power nap is way better than dragging yourself through the day like a zombie.

Has anyone actually tried the fasting method? I've read about it, but it sounds like a nightmare to pull off while traveling.

I tried it once! It actually helped me reset my clock faster, but I was so hangry by the time I landed that I couldn't focus on my meeting.

Melatonin is a lifesaver for me. Take a small dose about an hour before you want to sleep at your destination time, not on the plane.

Careful with the melatonin though, it gives some people really weird dreams. Start with a very low dose.

Natural sunlight is the secret. Get outside as soon as you land. It signals your brain that it's daytime way better than any pill.

Totally agree. I usually go for a brisk walk around the block right after checking into my hotel. Does wonders for the brain fog.

Avoid caffeine after lunch on the first day. It's tempting to keep chugging coffee to stay awake, but it'll just ruin your sleep that night.

Good point. I usually switch to herbal tea once I hit the afternoon slump.

I've started booking flights that arrive in the early evening. That way, I just have to grab dinner and go straight to sleep.

That's a smart strategy, but sometimes the flight prices are just too high for those times.

Don't overthink it. Just try to get as much sleep as you can on the plane, even if it's just a few catnaps.

Actually, I find that sleeping on the plane makes my jet lag worse because I can't sleep at night when I arrive. I try to stay awake the whole flight.

Compression socks. Seriously. They don't help with the clock, but they keep your legs from feeling like lead when you land.

Good luck with the trip! Eight time zones is rough, but you'll survive.

Whatever you do, don't rely on alcohol to help you sleep on the plane. It dehydrates you and makes the landing transition way harder.
