Hi everyone! I'm planning a trip for late March/early April next year and I'm starting to research potential destinations. I'm really hoping to experience beautiful spring weather - not too hot, not too cold - and maybe see some flowers blooming or enjoy some outdoor activities. I'm open to pretty much anywhere in the world, but I'd love to hear about places that truly shine during the spring season. Any hidden gems or classic spots you'd recommend? I'm looking for a mix of culture and natural beauty, ideally somewhere that isn't completely overrun with tourists yet. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

For late March/early April, Japan is absolutely breathtaking, especially if you catch the cherry blossoms. It can get busy, but if you go slightly off the main tourist routes (like Kyoto/Tokyo), you can find some amazing spots with fewer crowds. The blend of ancient culture and natural beauty is unparalleled.

I second Japan, but be warned, it can be very crowded during cherry blossom season, even in smaller towns. If you're looking for something a bit less intense, consider Portugal. The Algarve region is stunning in spring, with wildflowers, pleasant temperatures, and beautiful coastal walks. Lisbon and Porto offer a great cultural fix too!

Netherlands for sure! The tulip fields are incredible around that time, and cities like Amsterdam are lovely before the peak summer rush. Very walkable and great for outdoor activities like cycling.

That's a tough one, as everyone's idea of 'not too hot, not too cold' varies! I went to Tuscany, Italy, in early April a few years ago and it was perfect. Rolling hills, blooming poppies, delicious food and wine, and you can explore charming medieval towns without sweltering. Not completely tourist-free, but manageable.

I agree with the Portugal suggestion! The Douro Valley is particularly beautiful in spring, green and lush, and the weather is usually ideal for boat trips or vineyard tours. Plus, the food is incredible.

Have you thought about South Korea? Similar to Japan with the cherry blossoms, but often a bit less crowded and just as beautiful. The food scene is fantastic, and places like Jeju Island offer incredible natural landscapes.

Croatia might be a good option for you. The Plitvice Lakes are stunning in spring with the waterfalls and greenery, and the coast isn't packed yet. You get beautiful nature and a rich history, especially in places like Split or Dubrovnik before the summer crowds descend.

I'd skip Western Europe if you want to avoid crowds entirely. Maybe consider somewhere like Georgia (the country, not the state!). It's a hidden gem with incredible mountains, ancient monasteries, and delicious cuisine. Spring is perfect for hiking there.

To the person who suggested Italy, I'd also add Sicily! The weather is already warm but not scorching, the wildflowers are out, and you have ancient ruins, volcanic landscapes, and beautiful coastlines. It's got a unique culture too.

What about Turkey? Cappadocia is magical with the hot air balloons and unique landscapes, and the Mediterranean coast (Antalya region) starts to warm up nicely. It offers a fantastic mix of history, culture, and nature, often at a more budget-friendly price point.

Honestly, anywhere in Central Europe like Austria or Switzerland can be amazing in late spring. The mountains are still snow-capped but the valleys are green, and the towns are charming. Perfect for hiking and enjoying nature without extreme heat.

I'm with the Japan recommendations, but if you want something really off the beaten path, consider Taiwan. The cherry blossoms are beautiful, the hiking is superb (Taroko Gorge!), and the food is out of this world. Plus, it's generally less expensive than Japan.

The Netherlands is great, but it can still be quite chilly and rainy in late March/early April sometimes. Just something to keep in mind if 'not too cold' is a big factor for you.

For a mix of culture and natural beauty without huge crowds, I would suggest Slovenia. Lake Bled and Triglav National Park are stunning, and Ljubljana is a charming capital. It's often overlooked but truly beautiful in spring.
