Hey everyone! I'm planning a trip to Western Ukraine in a few months and I'm looking for some off-the-beaten-path recommendations. I've already got Lviv on my list, but I'm keen to explore some less touristy towns or natural spots. Has anyone visited any particularly unique or beautiful places in regions like Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, or Zakarpattia that they'd highly recommend? I'm interested in historical sites, scenic landscapes, or even unique local experiences. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You definitely have to check out Synevir Lake in Zakarpattia. It's stunning, though it can get a bit busy on weekends, so go early in the morning.

I second the Synevir recommendation, but also don't skip the Shypit Waterfall nearby. It’s a bit of a hike but totally worth it for the views.

If you're in Chernivtsi, just spend a day walking around the University. It feels like Hogwarts and the architecture is genuinely world-class.

Totally agree about the University! Make sure to book a guided tour in advance so you can see the inside of the main building.

Have you considered Kolomyia? The Pysanka Museum is super unique and you won't find anything like it anywhere else in the world.

For something more quiet, try visiting the village of Kryvorivnia. It's the heart of Hutsul culture and the scenery is incredible.

Definitely check out Kryvorivnia. I stayed there for three days and it was the most peaceful experience of my life.

Honestly, just rent a car and drive through the Carpathian mountain passes. The best spots are often the ones you find by accident.

Be careful with renting a car, some of the mountain roads are in really rough shape. Stick to the main routes if you aren't used to off-roading.

Mukacheve Castle is a must-see. It's impressive and the history there is fascinating.

I found Mukacheve a bit touristy personally. If you want history without the crowds, look into the smaller wooden churches in the Drohobych region.

Where is the best place to get authentic banosh? I'm headed there next month too.

Look for small roadside 'kolybas' (traditional wooden restaurants). They almost always have the best homemade stuff.

If you like hiking, Mount Pip Ivan is a great challenge. The observatory at the top is a very cool sight.

Definitely bring good hiking boots if you go to Pip Ivan. The weather changes fast up there!
