We are planning our first summer trip to the Carpathian mountains with our two kids, aged 6 and 9. We want somewhere that isn't too remote but still offers plenty of nature, easy hiking trails, and maybe some kid-friendly activities like rope parks or swimming spots. Does anyone have recommendations for specific towns or resorts that are good for families? We are hoping to avoid places that are overly crowded but still have decent infrastructure and grocery stores nearby. Any advice on where to stay or what to avoid would be greatly appreciated!

You should definitely look into Bukovel, but maybe stay in Polianytsia nearby. It’s got everything for kids-rope parks, a huge lake, and great infrastructure, but it's much quieter than the center of the resort.

I second the suggestion for Polianytsia, but honestly, it can get pretty pricey in the summer. Have you considered Slavske? It's a bit more old-school, but the hiking is fantastic for kids that age.

If you want nature without the massive crowds, try Tatariv. It's perfectly located between the main hubs, so you have easy access to grocery stores, but you’re surrounded by forest.

Tatariv is lovely, but be careful with the main road traffic there. It can get a bit noisy if you stay too close to the highway.

Check out Yaremche. It’s very touristy, but for a first-time trip, it’s perfect because you don’t have to worry about finding basic supplies and the waterfall is always a hit with kids.

Definitely avoid Yaremche in mid-July if you hate crowds. It feels like a city street sometimes. Try Vorokhta instead; it's much more chill and the views of the Hoverla are incredible.

We went to Mizhhiria last summer and it was such a hidden gem. Very affordable, plenty of green space, and the Synevyr lake is a must-see for the kids.

Mizhhiria is great, but the roads getting there can be a bit rough depending on where you're coming from. Just keep that in mind if you have a smaller car.

Take plenty of bug spray! The Carpathians are beautiful, but the mosquitoes near the rivers can be brutal for little ones in the evenings.

Agreed with the bug spray tip! Also, don't overplan your hikes. Stick to the marked trails near the resorts; they are well-maintained and usually have benches or spots to rest.
