I'm heading out on a three-week backpacking trip across Europe next month and I'm trying to get my phone set up with the right tools. I already have Google Maps and a currency converter, but I'm looking for recommendations for things like offline translation, budget tracking, or maybe even finding hidden local spots. Are there any specific apps you guys swear by that make navigating a new country way easier? I'd love to hear what has saved you the most stress while on the road.

Citymapper is an absolute lifesaver for navigating public transport in major European cities. It's way more accurate than Google Maps in places like London or Paris.

Don't forget to download the offline language packs on Google Translate. You can even use the camera feature to translate menus in real-time, which is a total game changer.

For budget tracking, I always use TravelSpend. You can share trips with friends if you're splitting costs, and it handles multiple currencies perfectly.

Honestly, just get an eSIM like Airalo. It saves you the headache of hunting for local SIM cards the second you land at the airport.

I second the Airalo suggestion! It makes life so much easier when you're jumping between borders every few days.

If you want hidden local spots, check out Spotted by Locals. It's written by people who actually live in the cities, so you avoid all the tourist traps.

Hostelworld is essential if you're backpacking. Even if you aren't booking, the social features and reviews are great for seeing where other travelers are hanging out.

I've tried using those local spot apps, but honestly, just asking the hostel staff usually gets you better recommendations.

Make sure you have an offline map app like Maps.me as a backup. There have been times where my data cut out in rural areas and it saved my life.

Pack less, download more! Just make sure your phone has enough storage for all these apps before you leave.
