We are heading on our first long-haul flight with our two toddlers next month, and I am starting to panic about what medical supplies to pack. I have the basics like band-aids and antiseptic wipes, but I am wondering if there is anything specific I should bring for travel-related issues like motion sickness or minor stomach bugs. Are there specific brands or formats that are easier to travel with, especially through airport security? I want to be prepared without overpacking my entire medicine cabinet. Any advice on what you guys actually use would be greatly appreciated.

For long-haul flights, definitely pack children's ibuprofen and acetaminophen in those pre-measured liquid sachets. They take up way less space than bottles and you don't have to worry about the 100ml liquid rule at security.

Seconding the sachets! Also, don't forget oral rehydration salts. If they catch a stomach bug, keeping them hydrated is the most important thing.

Add some stickers to your kit. Sometimes a cool sticker acts as a better 'cure' for a minor scrape than a band-aid ever could.

Great advice about the stickers. Does anyone have recommendations for motion sickness? My toddler gets really dizzy in cars, let alone planes.

For motion sickness, check with your pediatrician first. Most meds aren't recommended for under 2s, but ginger chews or acupressure wristbands can sometimes help take the edge off.

I always carry a digital thermometer that works quickly. You don't want to be fumbling with a slow one while your kid is screaming in a cramped airplane seat.

Don't overthink it. You can buy almost anything you need at a pharmacy at your destination. Just bring the essentials and a small thermometer.

I disagree with the 'buy it there' approach. When your toddler has a fever at 3 AM in a foreign country, you really don't want to be hunting for a pharmacy that is open.

Pack a small tube of antibiotic ointment and some hydrocortisone cream. Kids always seem to get random rashes or bug bites when we travel.

Make sure you have a copy of their prescriptions if you bring anything stronger than Tylenol. Airport security has never given me trouble, but it's better to be safe.

Saltine crackers! They are a lifesaver for travel-related nausea, and easy to find in any airport terminal.

I pack everything in a clear, labeled Ziploc bag. Security agents love it when they can see exactly what's inside without me having to dump everything out.

Great tip on the clear bag. I'll definitely do that for our trip next month.

Don't forget infant saline drops for their noses. The air on planes is super dry and it really helps keep them comfortable during the flight.

I keep a small 'emergency' kit in my carry-on and a larger 'restock' kit in my checked luggage. That way if the airline loses my bag, I still have the basics.
