My partner and I are looking to take a short trip somewhere in Ukraine next month, but we're currently on a pretty tight budget. We live in Kyiv and are hoping to find a destination that doesn't require an expensive train or bus ticket. We love nature and quiet towns rather than busy city centers. Does anyone have recommendations for affordable places to stay or hidden gems that are easy to reach? Any tips on saving money while traveling locally would also be greatly appreciated.

If you are in Kyiv and want nature, definitely look into Korostyshiv. It is super close, cheap to reach by bus, and the granite quarries are beautiful for a quiet weekend.

I second the Korostyshiv suggestion! Just bring a tent if you want to save even more on accommodation.

Have you considered Chernihiv? It is a bit bigger than a small town, but it is very affordable, peaceful, and has plenty of parks and old architecture to explore without spending much.

Chernihiv is great, but honestly, for a budget trip, try to check out Bucha or Irpin area for forest walks. It's practically local and saves you a ton on transport.

Whatever you do, use the Ukrzaliznytsia app. If you book regional trains (elektrichka) instead of Intercity, you will save a fortune.

That's a good tip, but be prepared for a slower trip! It's worth it for the price though.

Try visiting Kaniv. It's quiet, right by the Dnipro river, and the hill with the Shevchenko monument offers an amazing view. Very budget-friendly if you find a local guesthouse.

Kaniv is a hidden gem for sure. The nature there is absolutely stunning this time of year.

Hostels are usually the way to go if you want to save. Also, look for places with a kitchen so you can cook your own meals instead of eating out every time.

Great advice. Cooking your own food easily cuts the trip cost in half.

Try looking at smaller towns along the Desna river. You can rent a cheap bike or just hike around. It's very peaceful and perfect for a nature-loving couple.
