I have a long weekend coming up and I really want to visit some of the historic castles in Ukraine. I'll be starting from Kyiv, so I'm looking for a route that is manageable within three days without spending the entire time in a car. I've heard great things about Kamianets-Podilskyi, but I'm wondering if it's feasible to pair it with another site like Khotyn or maybe something closer to the capital. Does anyone have experience with a quick itinerary like this? Any tips on transportation or must-see spots would be greatly appreciated.

Kamianets-Podilskyi and Khotyn are definitely doable together since they are only about 30 minutes apart by car. Definitely worth the trip!

If you're starting from Kyiv, keep in mind that the drive to Kamianets is quite long, around 6-7 hours. You might spend a big chunk of your first day just traveling.

Have you considered taking the night train? It saves a ton of time and you arrive in the morning well-rested.

Totally agree with the night train suggestion. It makes a three-day trip feel much longer since you aren't exhausted from driving.

Don't forget to visit the Old Town in Kamianets, it's really atmospheric at night when they light up the fortress.

Is it safe to travel there right now? Just asking because I'm not sure about the current situation with tourism in that region.

It is generally considered safe, but always check local news and air raid alerts, even in the western regions.

If you want something closer to Kyiv, Radomysl Castle is a great option. It's only about an hour and a half away and makes for a perfect day trip.

Radomysl is nice, but it's more of a museum/hotel than a medieval fortress. If you want the real deal, definitely stick with the Podillia region.

Make sure to bring comfortable walking shoes. The cobblestone streets in Kamianets are no joke!

I second the comfortable shoes advice. I learned that the hard way last summer.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good place to stay in Kamianets? Something historic would be cool.

Look for guesthouses inside the Old Town, there are plenty of renovated buildings that offer a great authentic vibe.

Don't miss the Bakota area if you have extra time, the views of the Dniester canyon are absolutely stunning, especially near the rock monastery.

Thanks for all the tips! I think I'll try the night train route and hit both Kamianets and Khotyn.

Great choice! You won't regret it. Khotyn fortress is incredibly impressive when you see it from the river bank.
