I am currently planning our next big trip and I'm stuck between booking a resort in Turkey or heading to Egypt. We really want a mix of relaxing beach time and some historical sightseeing, but I'm unsure which destination offers better value for money this year. I've heard the food in Turkey is incredible, but the snorkeling in the Red Sea is meant to be unbeatable. Has anyone been to both recently who can share their thoughts on the service quality and overall atmosphere? We would be traveling in late September, so weather is also a bit of a concern for us.

Late September is actually the perfect time for both, but Turkey starts to cool down a bit in the evenings while Egypt is still very hot. If you want guaranteed heat, Egypt is your best bet.

I agree about the weather. We went to Antalya last year in the last week of September and had a couple of rainy days, though it was still warm.

Turkey is definitely better for food and service. The all-inclusive resorts there are on another level compared to most Egyptian ones I've visited.

If snorkeling is a priority, don't even bother with Turkey. The Red Sea is world-class. You can see amazing fish right off the hotel pier in Sharm.

That's a good point about the snorkeling, but the OP mentioned sightseeing too. Turkey has so many ruins like Ephesus or Side that are right on the coast.

Egypt is much cheaper right now. Turkey has seen some crazy inflation lately, so your 'value for money' might go further in Hurghada.

I've been to both recently and I felt much safer walking around outside the resort in Turkey. In Egypt, you tend to stay within the hotel walls more.

Exactly! The 'vibe' in Turkey is much more relaxed for families who like to explore local towns.

For a family, I'd pick a high-end resort in Belek. The kids' clubs there are incredible and the food is actually edible for picky eaters.

Don't forget that if you want to see the Pyramids from a beach resort, it's a long flight or a very long bus ride. It's not a 'day trip' like people think.

We did Marsa Alam in October and it was stunning. If you want peace and quiet plus sea life, that's the spot.

I found the service in Egypt to be a bit pushy regarding tips. In Turkey, it felt a bit more genuine, though that's just my experience.

Turkey all the way for me. The greenery and mountains near Fethiye or Oludeniz are so much prettier than the desert landscape of Egypt.

It really comes down to whether you want to look at the water (Turkey) or be under it (Egypt). Both are great choices though!
